- MMC (Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation) – the eastern suburbs
Each is now a separate body with its own commissioner, office, and administration. Your area went into exactly one of them based on which zone it was in.
Which zones went where

GHMC keeps these five zones: Khairatabad, Golconda, Charminar, Rajendranagar, and Shamshabad. If you’re in the central or old-city parts of Hyderabad – areas like Khairatabad, Mehdipatnam, Charminar, Golconda, Rajendranagar, or Shamshabad – you’re still under GHMC.
Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has three zones: Serilingampally, Kukatpally, and Quthbullapur. If you live in the western IT belt – Gachibowli, Madhapur, Kondapur, Miyapur, Kukatpally, Nizampet, Quthbullapur, or Kokapet – you’re now under Cyberabad MC.
Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) has three zones: Malkajgiri, Uppal, and L. B. Nagar. If you’re in the eastern suburbs – Malkajgiri, Uppal, Nagole, L. B. Nagar, Boduppal, Dammaiguda, or Saroornagar – you’re now under Malkajgiri MC.
The three corporations at a glance
GHMC now covers roughly 689 sq km with 150 wards across 30 circles and 6 zones. Its head office remains at Lower Tank Bund, and R. V. Karnan continues as Commissioner.
Cyberabad MC covers the western zones with 76 wards across 16 circles. Its head office is at the NAC Building in Madhapur, and G. Srijana was appointed Commissioner.
Malkajgiri MC covers the eastern zones with 74 wards across 14 circles. Its head office is at the HMDA Building in Tarnaka, and T. Vinay Krishna Reddy was appointed Commissioner.
Together, the three still add up to the same 300 wards and 60 circles the enlarged GHMC had before the split – they’ve simply been divided into three administrations.
Why did this happen?
The old GHMC had become the largest municipal corporation in India by area – over 2,000 sq km after 27 surrounding municipalities were merged into it in late 2025. That was simply too large for one body to manage well. Splitting it into three was meant to make civic administration more manageable and services more responsive, with each corporation focusing on a smaller, more defined part of the city.
The reorganisation also came just as the number of wards was doubled from 150 to 300 through the 2025 delimitation, ahead of the upcoming municipal elections (expecting in next August-September).
What actually changed for you as a resident
For most day-to-day things, less than you might fear but a few things are worth knowing:
Your property tax is now handled by your new corporation. The payment portals and account details are being aligned, so if you pay online, check that you’re on the correct corporation’s system.
Your complaints (garbage, drainage, street lights, roads) now go to your new corporation’s grievance system, not the old combined GHMC one.
Your ward number may be new. The delimitation that doubled wards from 150 to 300 means many areas now have a different ward number than before. This matters especially for the upcoming elections and for any civic paperwork.
Water (HMWSSB) and electricity (TSSPDCL) are separate utilities and were not split, those services continue as before regardless of which corporation you’re in.
